Monthly Archives: March 2013

Lately, I’ve been listening to music from the seventies, taking special interest in foreign singers.  I’ve found some pretty cool entertainers from that time, including a singer named Jeanette.

Jeanette hails from Spain and America, and is a very famous Spanish pop singer.  There have been lots of covers of her most successful song, Porque Te Vas.  She’s got a lot of catchy tunes in her discography, including Frente a Frente and Corazon de Poeta.

Relevant to this blog post: her makeup style.  Jeanette has large eyes, which when she first debuted, was often featured on television with heavy makeup, and minimal/kinda rouge lipstick.  It often differed from her promotional pictures, but we don’t care about that–on to how to copy her look in SL:

Skin: Pink Fuel – Alyx (Natural, Eye A, Peach)

Lipstick: Pink Fuel – Lip Lustre (Salmon, Teeth)

Makeup Bottom Layer: Chelle – Dark Shadows (Brown)

Makeup Layer 2: Chelle – Dramatic Shadows (Black)

Eyebrows: La Mulvada Mujer (Eyebrows #8 Tintable)

I used mesh lashes from this (from Maitreya!), but you can use a light eyelash tat if you want. Jeanette doesn’t seem to put on any obvious fake lashes that I see in her videos, so don’t go too heavy on that.

For hair: Lelutka – Vibrato (I Don’t Bleach)

Did you grow up in the seventies?  Do you remember Jeanette, or your parents playing her music?

Say Something

Everybody’s got an opinion–I ought to know, I work for someone who’s pretty outspoken about what she purchases and reviews.  I’ve always valued directness in truth, and letting someone know up front what’s wrong.  It’s the shortest way to reach a solution.

But here’s my thing right now: there are a lot of mesh heads being released.  Lots of enthusiasm.  That’s great. I also see a lot of negative feedback, across the board about every head, that isn’t constructive–it’s just snark.

Everyone has the right to say what they think.  But when there’s just plain pointing and laughing, there’s something wrong.

My advice to the latter: if you want to see change, suggest what to fix. This is new territory.  Have you noticed each mesh head creator is approaching this new medium in their own way?  Some of us are using fullbright textures to animate our heads; others don’t believe in resizing.  There’s a variation in how heads animate when the user speaks, while some are frozen in their expression, as a more dollish interpretation.

It’s all a means of problem-solving: what would a new mesh head look like, if we could take LL’s avatar design into our own hands?

So, if you can help answer this question, that would be great.  Don’t just post a bitchy gif in response to what you see, say why you don’t like it.  It would be more meaningful.

Tea Party

Skin Fair opens tonight!  I’m pretty excited to see what avatars people take to this year.  I think there’s a good amount of creations from all the stores this year, so people should be pretty satisfied with what they find.

I put on my petite avatar today, stuck my doll mesh head on top, and flew to the Lula sim to take this pic.  I’ve always loved their tea party setup!  It’s so cute.

Heaven4D is an old scifi store in Second Life, that is decorated as the backstreets of a red light district. It has a prevalent Ghost In The Shell feel, so I thought it would be appropriate to take a picture of my new avatar there.

You won’t find anything new, but the store is located here.  There’s an arcade and a dance floor, and some pretty nice music.  If you head upstairs, there’s another small club all the way at the top, and a roof that will give you a view of the sim.

If you’d like to try out my doll av, it’s available at Skin Fair starting on the 15th!

[ a.e.meth ] Doll Mesh Head

So, I’ve been working on this doll for Second Life. It’s a hybrid avatar, being released for the Skin Fair on the 15th.  I’m really excited about it.  It was going to be a head at first, but I’ve decided to make a full-blown av for it.

The doll avatar comes packaged with:

  • Skin, shape, and head
  • An initial outfit (you pick which one)
  • Pumps or shoes
  • A doll key.

The doll seems prettier when it stays still rather than moving, so I think I’ll throw in some poses too.

The head comes with options of different eye colors, or closed eyes.  If you are a petite, you can shrink the heads to fit your body.  You need a body that can tint in order to use them, though.

So.. just know this is finally coming out!  Until the 15th (and the 10th for bloggers), I’ll be in my little garage banging out the final touches on this av.
